Silver Star Training
Silver Star Training will complement the knowledge gained during Green and
Red Star Training but the emphasis will move from drill to leadership and teaching.
Because those taking the Silver star course will be senior cadets, it is important that they know how to lead and teach.
The aspects of the Silver Star Course include:
PO 401 Drill - a cadet will learn how to properly execute advanced drill movements and how to order a platoon on parade;
PO 402 Fundamental Training - a cadet will learn about the Officer-NCO relationship and the duties and responsibilities of an
NCO;
PO 403 Bushcraft - a cadet will learn how to repair the Coleman stove and
lantern, judge the distance from a view point to an indicated point on the
ground, and how to construct an improvised shelter;
PO 405 Map and Compass - a cadet will learn the more advanced skills of map and compass
related to navigating across the country with the aid of a map and compass;
PO 406 Marksmanship - a cadet will learn how to shoot in the standing
position;
PO 409 Instructional Techniques - a cadet will learn the principles of instruction, how to prepare lesson plans and visual aids, and how to properly teach a lecture;
PO 411 Leadership - a cadet will learn the skills required to carry out
small group taskings;
PO 412 Citizenship - a cadet will learn about the three types of government, the Canadian
Government, and the Canadian confederation; and
PO 413 Physical Fitness - a cadet will learn the principles of personal hygiene
and nutrition and identifying the dangers to health by the illicit /indiscriminate
use of drugs and the effect of smoking.
