Field Training Exercises (FTX)
Our Corps holds at least one weekend exercise per month. Field Training Exercises (FTX) are used to complement what the cadets learn in
the classroom and give them practical experience. There are three FTXs that are mandatory (meaning, cadets must participate in order to achieve their star level): the Fall FTX held in
October, the Winter FTX held in February, and the Map & Compass FTX held in April. On these mandatory FTXs, the cadets are taught and allowed to practice basic bushcraft, fieldcraft, and map and
compass skills. Topics include constructing a shelter, setting up a bivouac site, care and maintenance of tools, light/repair a stove and lantern, amongst other things. All other
exercises, such as the Solo Survival are optional. These optional exercises have been put into this year's Training Program to provide greater exposure to the cadets of the
Adventure Training aspect of Army Cadets. Our Optional exercises for the year 2003/2004 training year include Hunter Training, Winter
Survival, and abseiling (which is like repelling). Check our Photo Gallery
under Core Activities-->FTX to get a feel for what we do on these exercises. This is a listing of the various exercises that we've done so far. Enjoy!
