The Corps holds an average of 2 abseil exercises a year:
one at the beginning of the year in September and one more at the end of the
year in April or May, depending on the weather. During these exercises the cadets are provided with free instruction on how to
rappel and rock climb. Equipment is also provided free of charge. Abseiling is used both as adventure training, but also as a means to
develop self-confidence in cadets. Cadets have to learn to trust the equipment and for some, to overcome their fear of heights. Abseiling is an
exhilarating experience and once you get over the initial shock of having to
lean back into the ropes at an almost 45 degree angle before you start, the rest
is smooth 'seiling.' Beginner-level cadets use a flat
surface and more experienced cadets use an overhang.
